Wow – incredibly gobsmacked.

This week, the finalists were announced for the Lizzies – more correctly known as the 7th annual IT Journalism Awards, recognising excellence in IT media and journalism. It is rather humbling to discover that, unbeknownst to me, I was nominated by an editor that obviously thought I didn’t give him too many headaches. As a result, I have been announced as a finalist in the ‘Best New Journalist’ category.

Smugness abounds.

The nomination follows a series of articles I wrote for Nett Magazine last year. These included:

So thanks indeed to Josh, Stuart and Shane over at Nett for the faith they’ve shown in me and thanks also to Netregistry for hiring me as their content writer in the first place.

Of course, I am not the only finalist. Therefore, without further ado…

Ahem…

The individual finalists in the category of Best New Journalist for the 7th Annual Sun Microsystems IT Journalism Awards are:

The envelope gets opened on Thursday April 9th at Sydney’s Star City Casino. Ooh, I love an excuse to get the posh suit out!

  1. **sniff** you mean my mags are still in their plastic, unread and unloved? **sniff**
Patrick, maybe we should decide the winner with five rounds, KO or ten second submission. Would make for an intersting awards night.

  2. Judging by the current anti-Patrick agenda at MediaConnect, you may have to get in line for a proper fight that night…

  3. Congratulations, Jonathan, and good luck! – and thanks for the inclusion in your writing blogs list! very nice.
Did you consider Perry Middlemiss’ Matilda blog at all? he gets a heap of traffic and I am a bit surprised not to see him at all. He provides a lot of online conversation. I’ll be going back, too, to see if John Birmingham’s blog is there.
A newie you also might like to check out when you do this again (??) is the blog at the Australian Literary Review by Stephen Romei, if that’s not too MSM for you – it’s called, A Pair of Ragged Claws.
Off to check out some of those blogs I didn’t recognise – thanks again.
